WMO Global Atmosphere Watch (GAW) Programme
The GAW programme provides globally-harmonised, quality-assured data on variables of importance to atmospheric composition. A network of observational stations constitutes the core of the programme. GAW includes a comprehensive quality assurance and data archiving system, supported through a set of member-hosted central facilities for the various categories of variables. Scientific Advisory Groups and Expert Teams, consisting of leading scientists in their fields, provide guidance to the programme when it comes to data quality, utilisation of data for environmental assessments and development of products based on GAW data.
The GAW Station Information System (GAWSIS) is being developed and maintained by the Federal Office of Meteorology and Climatology, MeteoSwiss, in collaboration with the WMO GAW Secretariat, the GAW World Data Centres and other GAW representatives to improve the management of information about the GAW network. GAWSIS is the official catalogue of GAW stations and contributing networks. It provides the GAW community and other interested people with an up-to-date, searchable data base of station characteristics, measurements programs and data available, instrument, contact people, bibliographic references.
