Seventeenth Session of the ASEAN Climate Outlook Forum (ASEANCOF-17)

The 17th Session of the ASEANCOF will be coordinated by ASEAN Specialised Meteorological Centre (ASMC) and conducted online. ASEANCOF-17 aims to generate consensus rainfall and temperature outlooks for the December 2021 - February 2022 boreal winter monsoon season. The consensus will be provided alongside related information on weather and climate drivers in the Southeast Asia region such as the El Niño/La Niña, Indian Ocean Dipole, and monsoon circulations.
Theme: The proposed theme for ASEANCOF-17 is Disaster Risk Management and Reduction (DRR). NMHSs will be invited to share national level forecasts they provide for the DRR community, as well as ideas for how ASEANCOF can support further development of climate services in this area. End-user representatives from the DRR community will be invited to participate in the final day of the session, to discuss and give their perspective on climate services. The benefits and requirements of the products proposed are to be explored during a panel discussion with regional stakeholders.
Training: A special introductory session on NextGen will be conducted by IRI on 23 November 2021. NextGen is a new set of high-quality, flexible, and tailored predictions to provide a state-of-the-art approach to produce seasonal forecasts.
Participation: All ASEAN NMHSs, as well as WMO, GPCs and international experts. End-user representatives from the DRR community will be invited to participate in the inaugural ASEANCOF webinar on 26 November 2021.
